To start off, you will need a large area in which to lie quilt flat top. It is very important to have a lot of room, this helps you see how the quilt is coming along. You will need large safety pins; they keep the pieces of fabric in place while you sew them together. Quilt batting this is the filling that will go inside to make the quilt soft and fluffy and also provides warmth. They say it is better to use a low-loft batting, it is easier to use with the sewing machine because it has less bulk. Needle and contrasting thread, contrasting thread just means to choose a color that matches the quilt fabric but not exactly the same color. The last thing would be Yarn and floss for tacking.
Once you have all your materials together, start off by using backing material for your quilt so it can compliment your quilt top. The best way to go is to choose a solid color that way if your fabric pieces are different colors and shapes it compliments it with just a solid color. The easiest way to go is to buy a bed sheet that is already cut to the shape and size you want it to be.
Time to fill it in! Use the batting to fill your quilt in this can be purchased at a fabric store and it is available in different thicknesses and loft this depends on whether you want a cool or really warm quilt. If you are looking for a warm cozy quilt that is thick and snuggly it is better for you to use a higher loft. What I recommend is to choose a medium loft because it is easier to work with.
