How to Change the Oil and Oil Filter on a Car
- 6 Quarts of Oil - Floor Jack - Oil Filter - Block - 3/8 Drive Ratchet - Bucket - 9/16 Socket - Newspaper - Oil Filter Wrench - Cleaning Rags - Funnel - Milk Jug
First of all, There are many advantages to changing your own oil and oil filter. One reason, for changing your own oil and oil filter is it is least expensive. Another reason, is it helps your engine run smoother, and also helps your fuel efficiency. Make sure the car is on level ground. Make sure you have all your equipment at hand so that there will be less running. Then, start the car and let it run for a minute or two. This will warm the oil to make it easier to drain. Second, place a block in front of the rear tire. Then, jack the car up carefully and get under the car to locate the oil pan. Once, you have located the oil pan look for the oil pan drain plug. After, you have located drain plug lay newspaper down and place the bucket where the drain plug is located. Now, take the 9/16 socket with the 3/8 inch drive ratchet and turn to the left loosen the drain plug slowly. Once, you have drained all the oil replace the drain plug turning by hand then, with the 9/16 socket and 3/8 inch drive ratchet and turn to the right to tighten the drain plug a quarter turn clockwise.
