Includes peer review workshops, weekly reading responses, & class-led discussion.
Unit #1 — Identity & Community Unit 20% of final grade
Unit #2 — Competition & Romance Unit 25% of final grade
Unit #3 — Nature & Technology Unit 25% of final grade
Final Portfolio 15% of final grade
The purpose of the portfolio is for students to reflect on the quality and development of their writing abilities at the end of the term. The portfolio will include a self-review letter and selected writing samples that students completed during the term.
Course Requirements
Class Participation & Attendance
• Absences on days when you have signed up to lead class discussion will cause you to earn a zero for the assignment. If you are absent on one of these days, it is your responsibility to contact me and discuss what happened. If you know you won’t make it to class, contact me before your scheduled discussion day so that we can rearrange the schedule.
• As we work on each major writing assignment, there are 2 draft days scheduled before you turn in a final draft version of your projects. Check your course calendar for the dates of these draft workshops. Absences on draft workshop days are equal to a 5% deduction of your unit grade. Additionally, coming to class without a draft on scheduled workshop days will lose you a percentage of your unit grade. If you are absent on one of these days, it is your responsibility to contact me and discuss what happened. If you know you won’t make it to class, contact me beforehand so that we can coordinate an alternate peer reviewer for your draft.
