The Virginia Colony and the Massachusetts Bay Colony were both similar and different on three main topics: religion, economics, and demographics.…
The foundations of the colonies were different. The New England colonies were founded because the founders wanted freedom of religion. The founders of these colonies were the Puritans. They came to this New World so they can build a society and win God’s favor not only economically but as wells as religiously. They wanted a government that would have God involved around it. Virginia in the other hand was one of the earliest settlements in the New World and was established by over 1,200 settlers. The Virginia colony was one of the first colonies to have elected legislature called the House of Burgesses. These people wanted to become economically wealthy.…
The English Colonies alongside the Atlantic Coast in the 1600’s- 1700’s began with the failed attempt to establish the Roanoke Colony in Virginia, which was later surpassed by the Virginia Company, a joint stock company, that established the colony of Jamestown in the Chesapeake Bay. Following the success of establishment of Jamestown was a series of devastation known as the “starving period” as food sources were scare, conflicts with natives arised, and starvation characterized the lives of the early settlers. However, once the government had a stable foundation and once people started to settle into the colonies as well as the Back Country, the conditions transpired into renowned opportunities. As these opportunities arised, so did the differences…
Virginia was founded by merchants and adventurers looking to profit from the land. Massachusetts was founded by Puritans looking for freedom from the Church of England. These Puritans settled in the north, in New England, whereas the Virginia Company settled in the south. By the 1660s in Virginia, wealthy families owned fifty…
While the virgin lands of America buried Spain in gold, and French in fur, the British were slow to get their new economy off the ground. After an Indian attack on the colony of Jamestown left the Virginia Company bankrupt and later dissolved, the surviving settlers discovered the cash crop they had been searching for. Tobacco exports climbed exponentially when the first cargo of Virginia-grown tobacco arrived in England and land became the most valuable commodity the New World had to offer. As the supply grew, the price per pound plummeted. Now fully dependent on this crop, the only solution was to grow even more, pushing exports over the limit. This new lifestyle became characteristic of the Southern settlements and tobacco would play a very central role in the development of Virginia society and American life.…

During the late 16th century and into the 17th century, two colonies emerged from England in the New World. The two colonies were called the Chesapeake and New England colonies. Even though the two areas were formed and governed by the English, the colonies had similarities as well as differences. Differences in geography, religion, politics, economic, and nationalities, were responsible for molding the colonies. These differences came from one major factor: the very reason the English settlers came to the New World. The Chesapeake colonies were primarily created by companies interested in profiting from the natural resources of the New World such as gold or silver to bring back to England. The New England colonies were primarily created to escaped religious persecution and set up a haven for people of their faith.…
The purpose of this essay is to explain the historical development of the Thirteen colonies in the time period 1700-1800. It will be shown that the development of the colonies of the south and north differed in this time period. As the colonies developed, the need for independence grew leading to the Revolutionary war in 1776. Slavery was very diverse. In the south slavery was separated into two subcultures: the upper south and lower south. Slavery, however in the north was less vital to the colonial economy. In 1760 monarchism was well established in American culture. Americans were proud of their British culture. In most aspects colonies were already governing themselves for example Pennsylvania State House was a strong visual reminder of the power of the colonial assembly. The assemblies had become the preeminent political institutions in the colonies. As time went by, Britain started imposing unjust policies and Americans believed so as to they could not remain under British Empire any longer. Colonist eventually decided to break free and declare independence from Britain. The Battle of Lexington (1775) marked the first military conflict between Britain and America. Colonists had shown their spirited determination of their need for independence.…
Differences between the three colonies are distinct. The New England and Middle colonies acquire an identical social structure compared to the South, which has slaves and indentured servants. The New England and Middle colonies dislike discrimination because of their lifestyle, which designates man as equal in God’s eyes. Another dissimilarity is religious toleration. Although the New England colonies have an equal social structure, they do not endure those who possess a different faith other than a Puritan lifestyle. The Middle colonies possess a strong certitude for religious freedom. This is shown in their welcoming of other people of different faiths. The South also possesses some form of religious toleration for others. The economy of the colonies is also different. The New England colonies have a manufacturing type of economy because of the infertile land compared to the Southern colonies, which has a farm-based economy. The environment impacted the economy and agriculture in the New England Colonies; farming was not as important for making a living because of climate and geography. The environment also impacted the economy and agriculture of the Southern Colonies; farming was an important way to make a living because of its climate and geography. The differences between the New England Colonies and the Southern Colonies in agriculture included the climate and geography. The New England Colonies looked to their natural resources as a way to make a living; the environment forced them to look for other ways to make a living other than farming. The Southern Colonies didn't develop all their natural resources as a way to make a living; there was excellent soil for farming income, so there was no need to develop natural resources for manufacturing. The differences in manufacturing occurred between the Southern Colonies and the New England Colonies: The Southern Colonies developed their main natural resource, their farmland, and not much manufacturing; the…
Essay Virginia and Massachusetts Introduction Massachusetts has been at the fore front of history for spill 250 years. The Pilgrims came onto land in 1620, and Massachusetts became the location of the primary Thanksgiving within the fall of 1621. Within the 1700's, because the economy of the world benefited from long fishing, trading, and construction, the residents became more and more rebellious against Britain's persistent taxation. In 1773, history was created once Bostonians had their far-famed party, boarding a British tea ship, and agitated the tea into harbor in protest of unfair taxation. As skirmishes with land became earnest battles of the Revolution, the spirit of the patriots swept the country, and once land were forced out of…
Massachusetts and Virginia were two of the early colonies in the new world. Although these two colonies originated from the same place they are very different. Virginia needed slaves for labor while the citizens of Massachusetts worked in production and had less slaves or indentured servants. Virginia traded cash crops such as tobacco and the colonists in Massachusetts build ships and traded fur among other things. While Massachusetts and Virginia were both British colonies, they differed greatly, from what they were able to grow to the religions they practiced, both thrived in different ways.…

Even if it wasn’t as easy as they had hoped it could be, the colonists were able to further their progress at their goal of becoming prosperous through economical means. By settling on land and in areas good for farming, fishing, and hunting, they provided food for themselves as well as for trading for other items. The establishment of trade and commerce across the coast enabled many factors to help the colonists’ economic goals by providing a way to sell or trade excess goods that cannot be gotten across the coast as well as gain goods that they would not be able to produce themselves as well. These are all reasons why economics was most influential in encouraging English colonial…
