How Shows Like Glee & American Idol Affect High School Choral Programs

Have you ever watched “Glee”, “American Idol”, or “The Voice”? If you have, how do you think these shows affect high school choral programs in the U.S.? In my opinion, they do have some affect. High school choral programs have improved tremendously thanks to these shows. I also believe that these shows have made more students interested in being a part of the choir or even theatre. Let’s get more into what the shows are about. Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series that airs on FOX. It touches in the high school glee club New Directions competing on the show choir competition circuit, while its members deal with relationships, sexuality and social issues. I personally have never watched Glee before, but I do hear that it is a great show; I just haven’t found interest in it yet. Maybe if I watch one show, I will! With Glee, even though I’ve never seen it before, I think that it does address topics such as vocal tone, intonation, dynamics and performance. I believe it addresses performances extremely well. From the commercials and previews I’ve seen, they are always performing and doing very well! Now with American Idol, this show is one of my favorites and I know that this show is all about vocal tone, dynamics, etc. American Idol is a reality television singing competition created by Simon Fuller which began airing on FOX on June 11th, 2002. The program aims to discover the best singer in the country where the winner is determined by the viewers. The contestants have to make it to Hollywood and then perform a new song each week until they are either voted off or win! The Voice. Personally, I’ve never seen or even heard of this show!
