How Physical Activity Benefits Academics
Physical exercise increases brain function and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Having increased physical activity promotes blood flow to the brain, therefore energy levels and brain function are increased. It has been researched that physical activity benefits physical health for years now, but new studies are researching the relationship between physical activity and academics. The effects of physical activity on academics are largely thought of as a negative relationship, but new research suggests that physical activity benefits academics. Studies all around the world have been turning away from fitness and health to fitness and academics. The number of recent studies done on the topic is vastly increasing with every passing day. The purpose of this research paper is to explore in depth the relationship of physical activity and academics on school aged students. School aged students should have a mandatory class period of physical education, because not only does it help control health related issues, but physical activity can also encourage better behavior and brain function.
Health related issues caused by lack of activity include obesity, stroke, and other serious illnesses. The risk of these diseases can be decreased by living a healthy active lifestyle, and also physical activity has been shown to improve the overall health of active people, “Physical activity lowers the chances of severe illness including heart diseases and strokes” (Bakewell 19). Without the required amount of exercise per day children can become obese, and scientific studies have proven that obesity leads to chronic illnesses including heart disease and other life threatening diseases. In today’s society, exercise is seen as a task instead of a pleasure:
