How New Technology Has Changed Our Lives
What do new technologies have changed our daily lives? In recent years, new technologies like smart phones, the Internet, the iPod, and online communities have become part of our daily lives, especially with the new generation who can’t live without their gadgets. In fact, new technologies have improved our quality of life; for example, we have new ways to make friends through Facebook, twitter and MySpace. New technologies also change the way we communicate with others. Although new technologies have advantages that make life easier, it impacts our life in an opposite way that takes some negative influences in our life and we also need to think of ways to overcome them. The Internet makes people live in their own world with less communication with their friends. I am not particularly interested in video games, but some of my friends are crazy about them and they spend several hours a day on them. They always concentrate on playing for rank. Once, I quarreled with my mother and felt depressed, so I wanted to complain about it to my friend to make me feel better. However, he looked impatient and didn’t respond what I was talking about. After that, I knew I disturbed him. According to Sherry Turkle “ The Flight from Conversation,” she states, “ A businessman laments that he no longer has colleagues at work. He doesn’t stop by to talk; he doesn’t call. He says that he doesn’t want to interrupt them. He says they are ‘ too busy to their e-mail.”(334). I have same experience that my friends are too busy to interrupt them, so an ideal way I can share my emotion is through the Internet. I posted a message in the Facebook about how depressed I was and I needed friends to comfort me. What made me excited, there were a lot virtual friends commented my message and consoled me by sharing same experience. For a long period of time, the way of life for most people were long, tedious days at work, with not much to show for, hardly any time to spend with family, and being fortunate to come home in a mildly presentable. Thanks to technology, most of these issues have been touched upon and improved. With inventions such as the steam engine, the water frame, the cotton gin, and the spinning jenny, our modern day might not have been so fortunate or plentiful. With the help of these inventions in the industrial revolution, post-revolutionary inventors and entrepreneurs were given the inspiration for their creations that led to the efficient lifestyles we live today. Although these new technologies made life a bit more bearable, there were still problems such as the lack of safety precautions and the amount of hours put into a single workday. With the help of time and new inventors, these problems were fixed, and the initial inventions were improved to better our lifestyles. Even though these primitive machines had very much noise pollution with all the screeching and grinding of their clogs, our modern lifestyle might still reflect those of the period prior to the industrial revolution without these breakthroughs in technology.…

Being online has also became a way of life. We can do a lot of things online. For instance, we can talk to our friends, order food and shop online. All these benefits has only made us to stay inside more and be isolated from the world outside. One might think that online communication helps to improve our social skills, but ironically, our social skills can start to deteriorate while communicating online constantly. “One concern, though, is that some social skills may not develop as effectively when so many interactions exist online.” (Konnikova). Also the fact that we don’t physically see the other person’s expression can cause it harder to understand the other person’s true feelings when interacting behind a…

Technology is ever-changing in today’s day and age and has affected us individually, and as a society either negatively or positively depending on the perspective. Technology has negatively impacted me in three specific ways. The first way technology has impacted my life caused a decrease in the number of face-to-face interactions I have daily. With technology assisting or occupying the majority of our day, the conversations we participate in daily are more often limited to a text or phone call. The second way technology has affected my life has caused an increase in the amount of bullying found online among students. With social media being the new façade for students to anonymously pick on one another, there’s been a noticeable increase in physical violence in schools, as well as a soaring statistic in pre-teen and teen suicides. The third and final way technology has negatively impacted my life caused less personal thinking in my daily routine. A phone, for example, has Internet connection, a calculator, a dictionary, a thesaurus and multiple other assistive apps to help simplify our daily tasks.…
