Considering Single Parent Families: History of Single Parent Families with Respect to Divorce Rates and Children Psychology It has been debated for long that the globalization does not only have effects on economies but it also has negative effects on societal dynamics. The hypothesis suggests that the globalization and the materialist ideologies which come as a co-product of globalization makes people rely solely on the material world and basically ignore emotions like love and belonging. Moreover, the globalization affects the family dynamics as it makes people more like slaves of capital, or in other words they make people work their hearts out during the work times and basically think about work and resting only during their spare time. When these two are combined, the interpersonal communication weakens day by day which leads to the alienation of individuals from the society. The more dramatic effect comes after this alienation; the effect of this lost communication basically affects the in-family relation and communication too. The depression levels, with respect to widespread acceptance of the globalization and materialist ideologies, increase in relation with this lack of interpersonal relations too. The effect all these have in families is basically the alienation between the members of the families and so increased divorce rates among the families. It can be stated that the divorce rates are increasing steadily since the integration of free market ideologies boosted with the globalization era after the World War II. The increase in female participation rate to the labor force with respect to high demand for labor, especially cheap labor, also served for the sake of the increases in divorce rates. Moreover, female participation made it possible for the females declare their financial independency. All these combined together the divorce rates have increased by more than 300% since 1970’s. This increase in the divorce rates also cause the number of children raised by single parent families, which carry the effects of having a single parent in their characters. In this sense, one can claim that the shift in the family dynamics with respect to the increasing divorce rates has been significant for the last decade which has been increasing constantly. These family dynamics due to growing of children in single parent families include character changes with respect to the missing parent or the single parent in the family. The theory suggests that in families which have mother as a single parent, children are more tend to be feminine or vice versa, especially in the case of divorced parents. The idea which causes this consequence is the hate grown for the divorced or separated parent. This hate creates the guilty separated parent and on the other side strong parent who raises the child on his or her own. Looking at the situation from the characters of children’s perspective, considering the fact that both of the parents have influences over the characters of children, it would be reasonable to claim that the leaving parent brings out his or her part of the character influence which causes the outcome that children may and possibly be tend to face character shifts in terms of being feminine or masculine regarding which parent left the family. Since the ancient times and until the mid twentieth century, patriarchy was the dominant ideology in terms of family dynamics as basically male in the family was responsible for feeding the family financially. On the other side of the balance female was responsible for the housework and children. This balance in terms of work flow in the families made the separation of duties in the families homogenous so that the family structure to be strong. However, with the increase of female participation to the labor force, the balance in the families started to change for the sake of females as they could manage to claim their independency financially as they could make money as well as males....
