About Brazil:
• Brazil is the largest country in South America, and the fifth largest in the world. It is home to the worlds largest jungle, the Amazons, and the worlds second longest river, the Amazon.
• Brazil is a good size of 8,514,876.599 square kilometers, 0.65% of which is water. It's land consists of hills, mountains, plains, highlands, and scrub lands. The climate is mainly tropical.
• Agriculture contains of coffee, soy beans, wheat, rice, corn, sugarcane, cacao, citrus and beef.
• The capital of Brazil is Brasilia, and the official language is Portuguese.
Culture and Religion:
• Roughly 200 million people live in Brazil; about 80% of these are Roman Catholic.
• Much of the Brazilian Culture was influenced by Portugal, but also by American (Native American) and Black Africans who brought along some of their culture when they were brought as slaves.
• Spirit-ism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity are also practiced in Brazil.
Establishment of a Mission Field
Rev. VanSpronsen was the very first missionary in Brazil, called by the church of new Westimer in 1970. He started working in Chapo in Santa Catharina, but after living thee for a while, he moved on to Sao Jose in the state of Pernanburo. There he had to personally do everything, and had to arrange everything. His work in Brazil was blessed, and by 1987 there were 41 Brazilian communicant members and 63 baptized members. God also granted a growth in maturity, allowing the church to become more and more independent. Now Rev. VanSpronsen could use his energy on other fields and so he left.
Rev. P.K Meijer, and Rev. R.F Boersema took over the work. At the time the work was expanded to the villages of maragogi in 1980, and in Barra Grande in 1983.
In 1988 Rev. Boersema began working further away in Recife in the camaragibe area. There were already 16 members and 12 regular attenders in that area. Rev. Boersema had to undertake appropriate... [continues]
