Hitler’s rise to power began in 1919, when he joined the Political party, Nazi. By 1923 Hitler was leader of the Nazi party, and was looked up to by many followers. With economic situations in Germany being high, Hitler was ready to capture Germany. Hitler came with his groups, and had planned to seize control of Munich, and then further progress to Berlin. It was a catastrophe, which was miserably planned. Hitler and his men marched through the streets, however the police fired the marchers, and they soon ran away. A few days later Hitler was arrested, and charged a 5-year prison sentence. While his time in the prison, Hitler wrote a book called “Mein Kampf” which meant My Struggle in English. This contained his ideas, thoughts and plans. Although his sentence was 5 years, due to his good behaviour, he was let out in 1 year.

* He reduced the number of Storm troopers (SA) and set up the SS, a personal bodyguard, loyal to himself. * He set up the Hitler Youth, which attracted young people to the party. * He put Josef Goebbels in charge of propaganda. Goebbels and Hitler believed that the best way to get the support of the people was by appealing to their feelings. They conducted a propaganda campaign using posters, leaflets, radio and film, and organized rallies. * He cultivated the support of wealthy businessmen promising them that, if he came to power, he would destroy Communism and the Trade Unions. This gave him the finance to run his campaigns.
