“The growing shortage of transplantable organs has reached crisis proportions and is getting worse” (Carlstrom & Rallow, 1999, para. 1). Approximately, 19 Americans die each day while waiting for an organ transplant (Health Resources & Service Administration, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services., n.d.).   Hope hospital uses its highly skilled professionals and technologically advanced facilities to combat the growing crisis; however, the scarcity of resources affects the market daily.   Because the need for donors outweighs the availability of donors, many times efforts are ineffectual in the battle of organ transplants. Therefore, Hope Hospital uses the economic flows, supply and demand, and pricing decisions to help stakeholders make optimal choices in providing organ transplants.

Hope Hospital boasts one of the most technological advanced, experienced and successful heart transplant programs in the country. The highly skilled surgeons and transplant team have performed many successful transplant procedures and are world-renowned for their commitment to excellence and dedication to patient heart care services and quality of care. Scarcity of resources significantly influences the services because even with the highly successful heart transplant program, efforts are futile if heart donors cannot be found. Unfortunately, there is a large shortage of donor hearts available. Statistics show more than 3,000 people waiting for a heart transplant, but only 2,200 will receive one stifles the program and leaves hundreds of people out of options (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, n.d.).
