Honesty Is the Best Policy
Honesty is the Best Policy

As the saying goes, “ Honesty is the best Policy,” what does it mean by honesty? Honesty is actually the act or quality of being honest. Honesty is the total opposite of untruth. Unfortunately, people nowadays are being untruthful to God, themselves, and the people around them. Being honest is not always easy. As human beings we know how easy it is to fall into sin, unless there is someone spiritually strong to guide us. There are many reasons why honesty is the best policy. Firstly, we must be honest to God. God made honesty one of His commandments. Since God cannot lie, He sets the example for all of His people. If we love God, we will truly follow His commandments and will be honest. As it says in Hebrews 6:18-“ So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie.” God made us in His image. We are spiritually and physically like God. If God does not lie, obviously He does not want us to lie. Secondly, we ought to be honest with ourselves as this will help us find it easier to be true to others. No one wants to be friends with a liar. A liar only knows how to spin tall tales and make a story more juicy by adding salt and pepper to it. As Proverbs 19:22 says,
“Better to be poor than a liar.” It is indeed with open arms that people accept friends who are conscientious, reliable, and virtuous. To further add, we will enjoy the confidence that no one or nothing can shake us from because when we are honest, this assurance helps us become immovable and consistent in our everyday journey and encounters with people around us. In conclusion, we must be honest to God, ourselves, and to the people around us. If we find it difficult to do this, we do not need to fret because He shows us many examples through His word on how to be honest. Sometimes, our spiritual vision is fogged with cataracts. Much to our dismay, we occasionally step

“They say honesty pays, but it doesn’t seem to pay enough to suit most people”. This is a quote from F.M Hubbard and I couldn’t agree more. In nearly every life situation, there are two paths that you can take. A path of dreadful dishonesty or a path of credible honesty. It’s almost sad how many choose the path of dishonesty over honesty. The act of honesty starts with yourself and needs to be more important in everyday lives.…

The first and most important reason for always being truthful is expounded on by Charles Fried in his essay The Evil of Lying. He states, “The lie is an injury because it produces an effect (or seeks to) which a person as a moral agent should not wish to have produced in him.”1 Fried suggests that there must be a correlation between rights and duties similar to the biblical Golden Rule, “So whatever you wish that others do to you, do to them also.”2 This suggests a virtue ethics approach to veracity: always tell the truth because you would not want to be lied to, and because it is morally upright to do so. A person is arguably unable to lie to himself partly because he cannot agree to intentionally harm himself. Knowing this it follows that lying to someone other than one’s self is wrong. Because the liar desires the right to not be lied to, even lied to by himself, he cannot ignore his corresponding duty to be truthful to others. In addition, truth cannot be owned by a person, therefore taking it for himself and away from another is an act of theft. Theft is inarguably immoral, so it follows that…

I think that honesty is really important because if you are able to express yourself without needing lies, you may reach a best agreement with someone in the future, and maintain a good relationship with someone is easier if you base that relation in the truth. Also it is important to be honest with yourself because sometimes you can become blind of your mistakes, instead of trying to fix them, in the other hand, if you are honest you may take note of your defects and fix them, and once you have fix yor defects you Could be able to help the other people to open their eyes and notice their defects.…

To sum up, I want to say that if the truth were only to be told, then the world would be so much different from now. There are distinctive situations in our life, and in some of them we should lie in others tell the truth. Abraham Lincoln believed that no man has a good enough memory to make a successful liar. I absolutely agree with him, because if you tell the lie, you should remember what you have told, and don’t forget it. So, it is your own decision what to say. Would you tell the truth or a…
