Kids are very excited to begin a school year, but they do not know what their getting themselves into. As Aflie Kohn mentions on his article, about kids working two shits academically. Every year that goes by schools are increasing the percent of work and homework to the students. (164) Kids deserve to have and education, but they also deserve to have a childhood. Schools are making the students more stressful, by giving them homework and taking away their childhood.

Aflie Kohn points out a very interesting fact in “6-to-8-year-olds who report having homework on a given day had climbed from 34 percent in 1981 to 58 percent in 1997.”(164) Meaning every year the percentage of homework and class work is increasing double the time; Giving kids less opportunities to recreate in life experience. Doing some research on the internet, I find out how a kid does his homework not because he wants to learn, but because he/she wants to get it over with and move on to whatever the kid likes to do. By looking at this fact most people understand that it does not do any good for a kid to do their homework for that purpose. Kohn states that The University of Maryland updated the study to see how the schools are doing with homework, and they see that a teenager has grown three times more. Now kids of age of 6-to-8-year-olds are doing work as if they were older. (164) Kohn demonstrate how one of the parents claims that “our kids are missing out their childhood.” (164) But schools are still thinking that giving homework to kids is beneficial and that supposedly makes kids more independent. However, there is no evidence that shows giving homework to kids makes them more...
