Ending Homelessness: Strategies and Implementations

Reducing Homelessness ii ABSTRACT This study provides current information and findings on emergency shelters’ support needs of the homeless and the housing first model. These two methods are compared to one another to show that the housing first model and how it should be a paramount objective in reducing chronic homelessness. Major findings and conclusions of this study indicate that, while the economy is improving, the numbers of homeless have increased dramatically. It also indicates that future adjustments to adapt to the housing first model would not only save the City of Seattle a significant amount of tax dollars, but improve the livability of the chronically homeless population by approaching and solving both short and long term needs.
Reducing Homelessness iii DEDICATION It has always been a concern of mine to help those in need. The chronically homeless also deserve a chance at living comfortable and sustainable lives free from addictions. I hope that this project will further influence King County and the City of Seattle to not only implement the 10 year plan, but accept it as well for a better more livable future for all people. This paper is for them.
