There are other factors that need to be addressed as well. Education is one of those factors. The education system in America has become so flawed that there are adults that, as teenagers, were just pushed through the system. Now that they are on their own, they did not learn anything in school, and now in a society where they must fend for themselves, are not even armed with the critical skills of reading, math, and writing. This is America, one of the richest countries on the planet, and as such, America needs to lead by example and take care of its citizens who cannot help them selves.

What are some of the main causes of homelessness?There are many different causes of homelessness in existence today. While we may never know all of the reasons, but we do know what the main causes are. Becoming homeless can happen to anyone in any walk of life. It does now matter whether you are rich or poor, black or white, young or old. Homelessness does not discriminate. Some of the main reasons for homeless are mental illness, natural disasters, an unstable economy, mass corporate layoffs, drug abuse and addiction, physical disabilities and disease.
A lot of states found it more cost effective to release the mentally ill onto the streets. These are people who need counseling and medication.
