A-For my abnormal assignment I went to Bellevue and stood outside of a store dressed as a homeless person. As people walked by me I held my card board sign that read “Abandoned by my parents and lost anything will help”. I dressed myself in ripped clothing and bagging clothing to display how poor I was. I also did not shower and looked very dirty by putting dirt marks on my face.…

The title is both literal and symbolic. In the book, there is a place called City of Bones. It is called the City of Bones because many of the old Shadowhunters are buried there. In the book, Clary and Jace go to the City of Bones to help Clary regain her memories that had been “blocked” by a warlock. The City of Bones is there to help people discover what has been lost or to know what the truth is. It is symbolic because throughout the whole book, Clary is discovering new things about the Shadowhunter world and who her parents really were. She begins to know what the truth is about everything.…

“Starving please help” In todays decaying economy there is an increasing number of homeless people living in the streets. With this increase in numbers more and more people are seen asking for money at intersections, parks, and in front of businesses. Panhandling laws exist but are rarely enforced due to the panhandlers using the first amendments, freedom of speech, as a means to avoid getting in trouble or insufficient funding of law enforcement. This should be a public concern because panhandlers’ standing around intersections is very dangerous and also discourage tourists and families that go to businesses where panhandlers are known to congregate. The absence of enforcement of these laws, I believe, cause beggars and panhandlers to stay in their current financial state and never want to try to get off the streets because of the amount of money they make from friendly civilians.…

The homeless stand down was an eye-opener experience for me. I had the opportunity to interact with several individuals, and one family. Initially I conducted some interviews with them to help complete the questionnaire; and the remainder of the time, I escorted the individuals and helped them choose items that were necessary for them. As I talked to each of them, I realized that the present state of these individuals were a product of the current economic situations. According to the National Homeless Coalition (2009), work factors are one of the many reasons why individuals are homeless. One of the individuals that I spoke to informed me that he was working a regular nine to five job at a construction site, but now due to the economy he is only working a couple of shifts and even those shifts are inconsistent.…

Time and time again you hear “ there’s no place like home,” and this is the truth. Many people own houses they reside at on occasion, but deep down there is that one place you call “home.” It is that special place you can always be yourself with no hassles and a place to escape for the misery that lies outside. Most people, including myself, take a beautiful home with a great family for granted, however many people don’t have the privilege of calling somewhere “home.” “Homeless” by Anna Quindlen gives you a perspective on an atrocity that is present in our world today, homeless people. This story leaves you with a lump in your throat just thinking about what is going on in our society today. It is outrageous to think while I lay in my enormous queen size bed and watch a 42” television, there is someone begging on a city street corner just trying to afford his or her next meal. “Homeless” is just a term given to people with no place to go, no place to live, but in the end these people are human beings just like us so it is our duty to give them help.…

In her essay “Homeless,” Anna Quindlen argues that Americans’ view of home has changed in the past few generations, and that we should adjust this view, as well as our perspective on homeless people. Quindlen introduces Ann, a homeless woman who shows Quindlen a picture of the house Ann once had. In this context, Quindlen asserts that a home is more than simply a house—a home is a place to which we feel connected emotionally and personally—and she emphasizes that the world’s worst problem now is homelessness. Quindlen argues that a home is more than just shelter, food, and a mailing address, which she show by explaining that she loves her own home because it is a place of comfort and security, but Quindlen also says that people lucky enough to have homes often take for granted the small and big things about our homes. Over the past few generations, the author says, our idea of home has changed from being a place where we and our parents, grandparents, and children would live to a being place we temporarily pause at before moving on to the next place. Because we have become transitory, Quindlen argues that our connection to home has weakened and that we have lost a sense of pride about our homes. Homeless people illuminate this problem, which Quindlen explains by giving reasons why many homeless people refuse to go to shelters. In the end, Quindlen stresses that we should view homelessness differently—as a collection of people with no homes instead of an abstract and impersonal “issue” plaguing society. By looking at it this way, Quindlen concludes, we can better understand how important having a home truly…

At any given night, in the U.S., there are around 633,782 people experiencing homelessness. Almost 100,000 of those people are chronically homeless, which means they have been homeless more than four times within three years and have slept in places not meant for human habitation. America has a homelessness problem, and we need to do something to fix it. The homeless shelters are nothing but shelters. We need something that is effective to get these people off the streets, and that something is Housing First.…
