Judaism, in its simplest meaning, refers to traditions of the Jewish people. This tradition encompasses the aspects of religion and the general way of life. According to Judaism 101 (n.d), all the aspects of the Jewish traditions, ancient beliefs, cultures, language and their civilization are collectively referred to as Judaism. To many people, Judaism is a religion. For one, BBC (n.d) refers to Judaism as the “oldest monotheistic religion that was founded over 3500 years ago in the Middle East” (BBC, para.1). Secondly, according to the Robinson (2009), “Judaism is an Abrahamic religion—faith which recognizes Abraham as a Patriarch” (para.1). Among all these definitions of the term Judaism rests one common position regarding the history of Judaism. They postulate that Judaism is the Jewish religion that survived in the past and is still observed to date. It is one of the greatest religions that have affected societal ethics in the whole world in that some of the civil laws in the world are based on the Judaism teachings. The major characteristic of the Judaism religion is the belief that there is only one God, the creator of the universe. To date, Judaism as a religion is observed by more than 13 million people in the universe. Close to a half of these people live in Israel while another big number live in the Unite States of America.
On the other hand, the term Anti-Semitism is used to depict the state of hatred that is expressed to the Jews. As such, the term is used to refer the prejudiced position that people take when referring to the Jewish people with the intention of defaming them or viewing them as inferior people. Anti-Semitism has been expressed in different ways where some of the anti-Jews use the word of mouth to express propaganda about the Jews and their religion.
