Hitlers Rise to Power Essay
Hitlers Rise to Power 1918-1935

Adolf Hitler was born on April 20th 1889 in a small Austrian town called Braunau, near to the German border. His rise to power began in Germany in September 1919 when Hitler joined the political party known as the Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (abbreviated as DAP – German Workers ' Party) the name was changed in 1920 to the NSDAP (National Socialist German Workers ' Party, more commonly known as the Nazi Party). This political party was formed and developed during the post-World War I era. The party was against the Treaty of Versailles; and it advocated extreme nationalism. Hitler 's "rise" can be considered to have ended in March 1933.
At school Hitler excelled in art and gymnastics, he hoped to follow his dreams of becoming an artist, however he left school at the age of fifteen and left for Vienna where he had his application rejected from the Vienna Academy of Art as “he had no School Leaving Certificate”. Hitler presented his drawings as evidence of his ability, these were also rejected due to having too few people in them. The examining board did not want a landscape artist. Hitler then became convinced it was a Jewish professor that rejected his artwork.
At age eighteen Hitler’s life was shattered when his mother died of cancer. Witnesses say he spent hours staring at her dead body and drawing sketches of it. He then became convinced that a Jewish doctor had been responsible for his mother’s death.
Without work or any means to support himself, Hitler, short of money spent his time painting post cards which he hoped to sell and clearing pathways of snow. He cleared the snow-bound paths of beautiful houses in Vienna where the rich lived and he once again became convinced that Jews lived in these homes. It was at this stage in his life, about 1908, that he developed a hatred for the Jews. By 1910 his mind had become warped and his hatred of the Jews, known as anti-Semitism, had become set.
In August 1914, World War One was

Hitler states that he purposely failed his classes to rebel against his father and sabotage all ambition towards him (Bullock 8).
