GENERAL INFORMATION
This course will be treated, to the extent possible, as a typical college survey course in United States History.

Course Description:
AP US History is a college level course designed to provide students with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in American History. Students will learn to assess historical materials – their relevance to a given interpretative problem, their reliability and their importance – and to weigh the evidence and interpretations presented in historical scholarship. This should develop student skills necessary to arrive at conclusions on the basis of an informed judgment and to present reasons and evidence clearly and persuasively in essay format. The survey of American History provides extensive chronological coverage and readings in a broad variety of topics that include economic, cultural, intellectual, and social history in addition to political-constitutional and diplomatic history.

This course is equivalent to a college survey course. It is demanding, rigorous, fast-paced, and challenging. It is designed to prepare students for the College Board Advanced Placement Examination, which will be given Friday, May 8, 2015. Students will be responsible for extensive reading, essay writing, primary source analysis, as well as in-depth projects.
