Philosophers That Historically Relate to the Beginnings of Psychology
Ancient Greek philosophers, Plato and Aristotle lead to the Golden Ages. The time after gave history “the great philosopher” Thomas Aquinas. He is said to have been the how united Christian religion through Aristotelian reasoning, but the End of the Golden Ages and the 17th century. This brought to history, the man who is “sometimes considered the father of modern physiology and psychology” (Goodwin, 2008, p.30), the great philosopher, Rene’ Descartes. Descartes resided over the conclusion of the Golden Ages. His life overlay with many great progression, alterations to history, belief systems in science, philosophy and the arts. Goodwin (2008) explains “Descartes was a rationalist, believing that the way to true knowledge was through the systemic use of his reasoning abilities. Because he believes that some truths were universal and could be arrived at through reason and without the necessity of sensory experience, he was also a nativist. In addition, he was a dualist an inter actionist, believing that mind and body were distinct essences, but that they had direct influence on each other (p.59). Just before his death, Descartes published The Passion of the Soul” this demonstrated his footing as a frontiersman psychologist and physiologist. He wrote it to explain human emotion however it described more. What we now today is known as reflex (an automatic stimulus-response reaction). Descartes is responsible for many of questions that came from the Golden Ages that were incorporated into the science of Psychology today. However, since that time many philosophers of the Western tradition that pitched in to the layout of psychology as a field.
