History of Basketball
Basketball is a very well liked sport by most of the world. I love basketball. Well I love the Chicago Bulls. But where did basketball start? When did basketball start? Who came up with this sport? What are the rules of Basketball and how have they changed? And what are the positions players play?

Basketball to my surprise wasn’t invented by a group of people. The sport was invented by a Canadian Dr. James Naismith in 1891. He was also Minister on the faculty of a college for YMCA professionals which are today called Springfield College located in Springfield, Massachusetts. He also wrote the basic rules of the games. He then nailed a peach basket onto the ten-foot elevated track. This is how we got the basket. The reason Basketball came about was because he was given orders from Dr. Luther Gulick, head of Springfield YMCA Physical Education, Naismith was given fourteen days to create an indoor game that would provide an "athletic distraction". Gulick demanded that it would not take up much room, could help its track athletes to keep in shape and to make it fair for all players and not too rough. He examined all the major sports which at the time were rugby, lacrosse, soccer, football, hockey and baseball. First he would notice the hazards of a ball and come to the conclusion that the big soft soccer ball would be the safest. Next, he saw that most physical contact happened while running with the ball, dribbling or hitting it, so he made the decision that passing was the only legal option. Finally, he reduced body contact by making the goal unguardable, by placing it high above the player's heads. To score goals, he forced the players to throw a soft lobbing shot that had proven effective in his old favorite game “duck on a rock”. The first game was played in December of 1891.
