There are many activities throughout our daily lives that are influenced by the federal bureaucracy. There are several divisions on the federal, state, and local government that regulate the majority of our activities. Like most Americans I spend very little time thinking about bureaucratic influences on my daily life, however I am aware that these influences exist, I just do not spend a lot of time thinking about them. I was not surprised by the amount of influence government agencies dictate over my daily activities, however I was surprised by one agency in particular.

First I will state some of the activities that I included in my journal and discuss the particular government agency that influences each activity. In my journal I mention that I was awakened by the alarm clock each morning. I also watch the news while getting dresses to see what the weather would be like on that day. Both of these activities are regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is in charge of all television and radio airwaves and also the cable industries and cell phones.

I am sure that everyone is aware of the influence that the Food and Drug Administration has on our daily lives. This agency oversees and regulates all food products and drugs that we take. From the vitamins that I take each morning to the allergy medicine that I take every night. This agency is responsible for all our food products and for making the nutritional information available on the packaging.

The FDA is a group of people who are put into office so that they can protect the people from harmful foods and drugs. We have the FDA because we cannot risk having people getting sick and dying from certain foods and drugs. The FDA main job is to inspect food and drugs being administrated to the people.
