The Vietnam War
During the sixties student unrest was abundant all over. There was so much protesting against the war not only among students, but most of the American public.
There are vast differences between the war in Iraq and the Vietnam War that identified a generation (Susan Page, 2005). Iraq has not lasted as long as Vietnam, has as many casualties, or generated the kind of antiwar movement that manifested the 60s and 70s (Page, 2005).
Fifty six percent of the people believed the choice of sending troops to Vietnam was a mistake. Fifty four percent of the people believe sending troops to Iraq was a mistake. As with the Vietnam War, people believe it would be a critical mistake to withdraw troops out of Iraq too soon. Politicians sense Americans should not leave the war too early for fear it would give the terrorists the idea if they wait long enough, they can outlast the Americans and win the war.
Conclusion:
The Vietnam War Era was an era that caused many changes to the American people. There was unrest and protests started by numerous groups of people. Young and old alike were strictly against the war, causing unrest between the generations. The conflict affected people in different ways, from defiance to confusion, regarding why America was even involved in the war. The war was a costly war and Americans were unclear why we were even involved in the conflict.
