World is becoming multi-faith day by day. There isn’t any single country in the world occupied by the people of a single belief. Each country has different faiths in the form of minorities and majorities. People of different communities are living with each other around the world and coming closer day by day. This is an era of globalization which calls for “interfaith awareness and understanding”. A basic understanding of the diverse range of cultures, faiths and their histories has become a requirement to survive which also serves as a starting point towards greater understanding and respect for others.
Pakistan is a country with at least 180 million people belonging to different faiths. Muslims are in majority while Hindu, Christians, Jews, Buddhist, Sikhs and others are the minorities. Among them Hindus make 1.6 per cent of the total population in Pakistan and 6.6 per cent of Sindh’s population is Hindu. About 80 per cent of the Indian population regard themselves as Hindu. This project of “Interfaith awareness and understanding” is based on Hinduism.
This project posse the information one requires for basic understanding and awareness of Hinduism. We tried our level best to gather more and more information. This project answers many questions what one wants to ask in order to understand this faith. Our work carries the information taken from the books on Hinduism as well as the interviews of people.
Our work also discusses the misunderstandings regarding Hinduism created by the people of different religions and will tell you what the misconceptions we have regarding their faith are and how they can be eradicated. This project is an effort to change the mind of people who believe in those misconceptions and misunderstanding and clearly distinguishes the right from the wrong. It has been observed that sometimes the difference in beliefs creates conflicts and violence among the people of different faiths. But actually no religion preaches violence and hatred. As Dalai Lama says
All religions are essentially the same in their goal of developing a good human heart so that we may become better human beings. This is an effort to make the people understand that the teachings of Hinduism are not fundamentally against Islam or Muslims. This project aimed to remove the hatred between the two faiths and to create an environment of brotherhood and peace between these communities by spreading true knowledge for the better understanding of the faith. Hinduism
In some ways Hinduism is the oldest living religion in the world, or at least elements within it which are thousands of years old. Hinduism is the religion of the majority of people in India and Nepal. It also exists among significant populations outside of the sub continent and has over 900 million adherents worldwide. Unlike most other religions, Hinduism has no single founder, no single scripture, and no commonly agreed set of teachings. Throughout its extensive history, there have been many key figures. For these reasons, writers often refer to Hinduism as 'a way of life' or 'a family of religions' rather than a single religion The term 'Hindu' was derived from the river or river complex of the northwest, the Sindhu. Sindhu is a Sanskrit word used by the inhabitants of the region, the Aryans in the second millennium BCE. Later migrants and invaders, the Persians in the sixth century BCE, the Greeks from the 4th century BCE, and the Muslims from the 8th century CE, used the name of this river in their own languages for the land and its people. It was sometime before the 15th and 16th centuries when the term was used by people to differentiate themselves from followers of other traditions. At that time the term simply used to indicate group united by certain cultural practices. The 'ism' was added to 'Hindu' only in the 19th century. Hinduism has commonly been viewed in the west as a polytheistic religion. It means the one which worships multiple...
