High School and Book
Name: Aaron Whitmore Period: 6th Date: November 27, 2012 Tears of a tiger “Tears of a Tiger” is a book about a high school student named Andy Jackson. This book has 180 pages. The book opens up with a newspaper article about a car accident that killed the town's star basketball player, Robbie Washington. Andy was the driver of the car and his three friends, Robbie, B.J. and Tyrone were the passengers. Three of the boys were drinking which was the cause of the accident. Andy, B.J., and Tyrone all left the scene of the accident with minor injuries. After the accident, the boys return to school and the accident continues to stay with them.
Andy begins to date a girl named Keisha who really helps him through the rough times. He is also appointed the basketball team's captain, which is the position that Robbie held. The book closes with Andy leaving for school but turns around and goes back to his house. Suddenly, Andy takes his own life with his father's riffle. The strengths of this book are that it has a lot of action and starts off telling about the death of Robbie.
The weakness of this book is that Andy killed himself in the end of the book. A quote that stood out to me is “Robert Washington, age 17, captain of the Hazelwood basketball team was killed last night in a fiery automobile accident on I-75.” I chose this quote because it tells you about what happened to Robert. The themes of this book are guilt, depression, anger, shame, and pain.
