High Performing Organization?
A high performance work system is the right combination of people, technology, and organizational structure that makes full use of the organizations resources and opportunities in achieving its goals. My current employer has worked diligently over the past several years in becoming a high performing organization. We have done this through several strategic approaches. First, we have aligned the human capital with the business strategy by developing a three year human capital plan focused on talent acquisition and development to support and foster business growth. Second, we have developed our leadership team to effectively communicate expectations and develop and promote the right people. Third, through the development and communication of our mission, vision and values, we have aligned our values and beliefs at all levels. Finally, we have identified critical positions in the organization, designed pay-for-performance strategies for our top performers, focused on quality talent management metrics and promote innovation through recognition.
While we have made great strides in moving towards becoming a high performing organization, we still have some progress to make. Specifically in our efforts to become a learning organization, where employees constantly learn and share knowledge so that they continually expand their ability to achieve the results desired. United Water has an aging workforce and our continued success will depend on how effectively we transfer knowledge from our employees that are moving toward retirement and our new employees just entering the industry. Our HR and management teams must be prepared to support, empower and promote this transfer of knowledge as well as offer the right training, development and support systems for the employees. This will improve team work, productivity and employee engagement.
