Species Diversity of Extant Ferns in two of the Mountains in the Philippines

Philippines is known for its high diversity of species considering its geographical location, archiphelagic formation and great number of rainforest. The ferns is considered to be one of the most diversed species in the rainforests in the Philippines.Researchers conducted there studies on Pteridophytes mostly on mountains where there are different kinds of ferns to see. There are two chosen mountains in the Philippines where the researchers found different ferns and the newly discovered kinds of these species; Mt. Makulot is located in the southern part of Luzon and part of Cuenca, Batangas and Mt. Hamiguitan is located on the southeastern side of Davao Oriental, Philippines. The researchers based the classification of ferns to the morphological traits and phenotypic variation of the two mountains. To the diversity of fern species, they considered the environmental factors (climatic and edaphic factors) such as temperature, elecation, relative humidity, air pressure and soil and some other factors like the accessibility of ferns, type of vegetation, moisture content and its altitude that influenced the species diversity of ferns and its relation to the growth of these kind of vascular plant. They prepared study sites within the mountains.Transect line was set using the line intercept technique.They Analyse by sequencing intergenic spacer relationship.They Performed Cladistic analysis through the morphological characterization of new found species of Ferns particular to Mt.
