Inkheart was written by Cornelia Funke. It takes place in the medieval time period, located in Italy. Inkheart is an enchanting fantasy tale about a girl named Meggie. Meggie is twelve years old and lives in Italy with her father, Mortimer, but she calls him Mo. Mo is a bookbinder which means whatever he reads comes to life. When Meggie has nightmares she reads in her father’s room. Nothing allows her to fall asleep better than a book and Mo’s soft breathing. When she sleeps she swears she hears the books whispering to her. Mo has told Meggie the truth about everything or so she thinks.

Mo is a tall young fellow. He has a twelve o’clock shadow and dark brown hair that flows backwards no matter what. Meggie has golden blonde hair that curls inward towards her face. But she likes to cover it up with a beanie. Dustfinger is Mo’s friend that he read out of Inkheart the day his wife disappeared. He has three slashes across his face and carries around a Martin with horns. Dustfinger is not a villain he is seeking to find his perished wife. Capricorn is the cold hearted villain. Mo accidently read his wife into the book and read out Capricorn and his minions. Nine years later, Dustfinger shows up to Mo’s estate and Meggie tells her father there is a man outside the house. She’s confused when the “strange man” calls her father “silver-tongue”. Mo and Dustfinger headed to the study. Meggie spied on them and over heard Dustfinger telling her father that Capricorn was coming for him and the book.

Meggie goes back to her room and as she’s reading “The Wizard of Oz” she hears a faint bark. Toto, the dog she had read about in the book, came from under the bed. Then she knew she had the gift. When Capricorn...
