Healthy people are happy people. Keeping that statement in mind, practicing medicine seems to be a good career choice. For many young adults making the important decision of becoming a productive citizen in society is choosing the right career. This paper will focus in on the life of an Obstetrician Gynecologist better known as an OB-GYN. Some things that will be discussed are the education requirements, description of work, salaries, and work conditions.
The first area of discussion is the education requirements. There are many colleges all across the world to choose from. According to information listed in an unbiased top ten list, one of the best universities for this major is UAB, The University of Alabama at Birmingham, in Birmingham, Alabama (ratings). The Obstetrics and Gynecology department is dedicated in being the highest qualified clinical, research and training program (uab.edu). Obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry and a license to practice medicine from the State of Medical Board is needed to become a certified OB-GYN. Also, earning a four year medical degree, completing a four year residency, and obtaining a paid internship or apprenticeship at a hospital or large practice (UAB).
The work of an Obstetrician Gynecologist consists of various tasks. Women’s health is their primary focus. They are responsible for general medical care for women, but also provide care associated with pregnancy and the reproductive system. Their concerns are with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of general health problems, also focusing in on ailments specific to the female body such as breast and cervical cancer, urinary tract, pelvic and hormonal disorders (techniques).
