Introduction/Thesis: Natural remedies and how they can affect our lives
In today’s society there is a growing demand for being the best you can be, whether it’s to get the perfect abs, the perfect hair, or to extend your life to a hundred years.   Millions of dollars, and hours at the gym, are spent every year trying to accomplish this.   Supplements are consumed from places like GNC at outrageous costs. Drugs from the pharmacy are taken for everyday ailments. Natural remedies, which have been used for thousands of years, will not only improve your health at a cheaper cost but without all the extras added in to the products that nature did not intend. They can have a lasting impact on your life.
Natural remedies are found in many forms, mental, physical and dietary.   Mental remedies are the first step to a healthy body and spirit.   Humor gives a positive flow of emotions and energy. The act of smiling alone resets the neurochemistry of the brain toward a more positive emotion [   (Castleman, 1996) ].   Humor cannot heal burns or cuts but it does help relieve the pain and stress of such injuries.   Professor William Fry, M.D. of Stanford University notes that 100 hearty belly laughs provide the equivalent of a ten minute row workout [   (Castleman, 1996) ].
Although meditation quiets the body and mind, it’s also the key component in Ornish therapy, which is the only scientifically proven treatment that reverses heart disease. Anxiety caused by pain decreases the pain tolerance threshold.   Controlling anxiety with the mind can increase the body’s ability to deal with pain, eliminating the repeating cycle of pain, anxiety, pain.   Panic attacks, which cause people to freeze up under certain circumstances, can also be staved off by focusing on breathing.
