A healthy lifestyle is a lifestyle that leaves you fit, energetic and at reduced risk for disease. There are many factors that contribute towards having a healthy lifestyle. These include good nutrition, daily exercise and adequate sleep. Managing stress in positive ways, instead of through smoking or drinking alcohol, also reduces wear and tear on your body.
Firstly, it reduces the risk of many diseases, such as heart disease. Secondly, it can result in weight loss, which prevents asthma, hypertension and diabetes. Thirdly, a healthy lifestyle is a steady flow of stamina and strength; you can perform activities and exercises that will enhance your flexibility. Generally, leading a healthy lifestyle allows you to have a longer and more comfortable life.
To have a healthy lifestyle, you have to eat a balanced diet by consuming a variety of foods from each food group in the right proportions. Firstly, it is important to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day. Research suggests this can help to protect against cancer and obesity. Secondly, starchy carbohydrates including bread, rice and potatoes should be eaten as they are the body's main source of energy. Thirdly, milk and other dairy foods should be eaten as they are an important source of calcium, essential for strong bones and teeth. Furthermore, meat, fish, eggs and beans are proteins that help our body to grow and repair. Drinking plenty of water is also a significant part of nutrition in a healthy lifestyle.
