For your third writing topic, you will write a 5-6 page essay during which you evaluate the current proposed H.R.3962-Affordable Health Care for America Act. You can read the current bill here: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h3962/text
In this essay, you are asked to examine and evaluate the proposed Health Reform Bill which just passed the house. In order to successfully complete this evaluation, you will need to establish for yourself some background into the ongoing health care debate. You will need to research the topic thoroughly. Once you have established some frame of reference, you must examine the current reform bill. Take notes--what is changing? Who will these changes affect? You will not be able to respond to every point of the bill, but do address a few of the major ones. Develop an argument for evaluation. Is the bill going to benefit the working class? Harm the middle class? Is it going to provide much-needed changes for the uninsured? Derail the economy? Formulate a perspective and then ask yourself, “how do I prove this?”
Once you have a good understanding of the topic, find reputable sources to support your stance in the argument. Make sure you verify the credibility of all sources. A few questions to ask as you are getting started…
