Abstract      
Health promotion is more important than ever. Nurses are in the forefront of the nursing practice. Nursing the most visible health profession they have a major role to play in the health promotion of the community . In the past the education was mainly to treat illness, in the future it will be to maintain their own health. Nurses should   be aware how through health education they can help individuals, families and through that the community to maintain health and prevent any illness. As more individuals become aware of the healthy choices and activities and follow it in their life and their family members a healthy community can be built up.

Health promotion is a process of helping the individuals to understand healthy lifestyle and encouraged to adopt in their life. To attain this goal health promotion objectives focus on educating the individual, encourage by counseling and provide support tools. Examples of health promotion plan and process in primary care include education and counseling program that help the individual to follow healthy life style including exercise, nutrition and regarding alcohol and smoking.
In the past 20-25 years it has been advised to include health promotion in all aspects of nursing practice. The health promotion reform has not made any universal impact yet whereas nurses always prefer to   use the conventional way y health education activities which remain the common method in the health promotion activity. Instead of conducting health promotion, health education based on lifestyle , behavior and risk are given.
