Eating disorders are known as extremely abnormal eating behaviors. It can also be characterized as an illness that causes serious disturbances to your everyday diet, such as eating extremely small amounts of food. It is a proven fact eating disorders start mostly during ones teen years. Eating disorders can happen to both a male or a female. Some eating disorders include anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Eating disorders are treatable, and   frequently coexist with other illnesses such as substance abuse, depression, and anxiety disorders. Eating disorders can be treated by reducing your excessive exercise, stopping purging behaviors, adequate nutrition. Many people who have a eating disorder and finally realize they have a problem go to a therapist and get put on medication to make sure that they don’t go back to their old ways. Especially anorexics can develop serious medical complications such as anemia, and irregular heart rhythms, and in some cases patients may need to be hospitalized before their actual treatment can begin.
Many people get eating disorders because they are insecure about their body, get bullied about their weight or the way they look, or being called "fat". It is a proven fact that eating disorders affect girls more than they do boys but many people don’t realize that boys are also affected with this disease. It is also a proven fact that either 1 or 2 out of 100 kids in the U.S. either struggle with anorexia, bulimia, or any other type of eating disorders (“Starving for Attention“, Daniel Harmon). Nearly seven million girls in the United States have an eating disorder (“Starving for Attention“, Daniel Harmon).
