HEALTH AND FITNESS

Health is wealth. In the life of a human being health occupies an important place. Preservation of health should be the primary dutyof mankind. Health is man's normal condition, his birth right. It is the result of living in accordance with the natural laws, pertaining to the body, mind and environment. These laws relate to fresh air, sunlight, balanced diet, regular exercise, rest, relaxation and sleep, cleanliness internal and external, right attitudesof mind, good habits and good patterns of living. Our ignorance about health continues to be profound. There are no yardsticks for measuring health. Health is often taken for granted and its value is not properly realized until it is lost. However, during the past few decades, there has been a reawakening that health is not merely a precious possession, but also a 'resource'. So it is desirableto maintain and promote health.

Nowadays, the average weight of people is rising while their levels of health and fitness are decreasing. I think the main cause of these problems would be unhealthy life style and lack of exercise.
People are getting lazier than ever before. They need convenience in everything. They would like to eat some instant foods such as cup noddle or frozen beef pie instead of cooking by themselves. Another point is that fast food is becoming more and more popular as that is cheaper and tasty. It is suitable for people who have no time to cook food at home. There are undoubted that pizza and fries are yummy but you would eat a lot of MSG and seasoning that is not good for human health. I personally think we should change our eating habit, for example, we should try eating less meat and more vegetable and fruits. Also, we need to drink at least 8 cups of water every day instead of drinking soft drink or coffee that can cause diabetes( or heart attack diseases.
On the other hand, lacks of exercise is the reason of increasing weight. As you know, people would be unwilling to do

    For many years there has been a debate between which is better for weight control and all around health and fitness, Cardiorespiratory Exercise or Weight Training. Many people tend to focus only on one aspect of the physical wellness. For example women, like myself may focus more on cardiorespiratory and flexibility training more so than Weight training. This is out of fear of injury, or the muscles becoming too bulky. Women tend to want to burn more calories, therefore they focus on exercises’ such as aerobics, walking, swimming, and jogging. Research shows that working out with weights has health benefits beyond simply bulking up one's muscles and strengthening bones. Studies are finding that more lean muscle mass may allow kidney dialysis patients to live longer, give older people better cognitive function, reduce depression, boost good cholesterol, lessen the swelling and discomfort of lymphedema after breast cancer and help lower the risk of diabetes. Although Weight training has its benefits for variety of reasons; it also has its downside. Weight training promotes short term stiffness of the blood vessels, which could promote High Blood Pressure over time and increase the load on the heart. This would not be good for someone who has a history of Hypertension. A variety of studies have shown that the best way to offset the cardiovascular stress caused by strength training is to combine cardiorespiratory endurance exercise such as a brisk walk, bicycling, or elliptical machine, immediately after a weight training exercise. Regular aerobic exercise causes your lungs to process more oxygen with less effort; your heart to pump more blood with fewer beats; and the blood supply directed to your muscles to increase. As a result, by performing cardiovascular exercises, you are increasing your body's endurance and efficiency.…

Obesity epidemic has affected every part of the world. When speaking about United States, more than 72 million adults are obese and there is not a single state that has an obesity rate less than 15 % (CDC Vitalsigns 2010). Among all Americans Obesity has been directly linked to hypertension, diabetes, cancer, depression and many other health problems. Each year, approximately 400.000 deaths result from obesity and its complications and costs the national economy nearly $122.9 billion annually (Menifield 2008). In addition, as of 2004, the proportion of obese adults in the U,S. reached 32% of the total population. Among adolescents, obesity has increased to 17.1% of the population between the 1999-2004 periods (Menifield 2008). This increase in prevalence has made obesity a threat to public health in United States. There are various reasons of obesity such as behavior, environment and genetic factors. One of the causes of obesity is energy imbalance. This means eating too many calories compared to physical activity. As we know that, nowadays people spend more time watching T.V and playing video games. Moreover food portion size has also increased not only at home but also in many restaurants. In addition, environment and behavior play a large role causing people to be overweight. People make decision base on their culture, values and beliefs. For example, in some culture it is not important for women to exercise or women are not allowed to go for a walk.
