During chapter one we studied why we communicate and what are our primary reasons for communicating and my primary reasons are P.I.S.P which stands for, Physical needs, identity needs, social needs, and practical needs. Physical needs are primary things we tend to need in our everyday life such as food, example; going out to dinner or going grocery shopping. Identity needs help us identify one another by name, occupation, background or opinions. Identity needs come from the way we interact with others, are we smart or stupid? Are we attractive or ugly? We decide who we are based on how others tempt to react to us. Social needs help us communicates about things we know or wants to know, as for friendships or adult relationships, it’s impossible for them to exist without communication. And practical needs are more of daily routines rather than necessary things like, your car need gas. My communication competence characteristics are, involvement, I try to keep a conversation going and be open. Also empathy, I make my points as clearly and understandable as possible.
In chapter two we read a book and talked about culture and communication. In the children’s book, No One’s Family is Invisibles like yours; it showed us an example of stereotype and perception. It demonstrates stereotype when everybody tells the invisible girl that their family is not invisible like hers. It also demonstrates ethnocentrism when the others... [continues]
