Among various technical standard in the world, Hong Kong adopted DMB-T/H national standard for the digital terrestrial television service. This standard used TDS-OFSM for transmitting compressed digital audio, video and other data, which is a multiple-carrier modulation technology. It has a 10 km greater radius of the signal coverage area than the DVB-T, a European standard. It also support the mobile digital TV services on handheld which make this superior than the current Europe standard (DVB-T) which serves only terrestrial. However, this modulation technology supports single-carrier and dual-carrier modulation scheme. Therefore, the complexity of the IC chipset is higher, resulting in higher price of receiver.
