The importance of the FDA is imperative for everyone who eats, takes prescriptions, and wants to know if something will be good for our society to use. The FDA approves what is safe and regulated properly for the people. The FDA assists in protecting and promoting the health of the people. They protect by assuring the safety of our products, medical devices, our nation's food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. With the product that we have chosen for Lasik surgery the FDA would be the ones to approve that this procedure would be considered safe. FDA is a vital source to our American public. The agency we have chosen is the FDA which stands for the Food and Drug Administration. They are responsible for advancing the public health by helping to speed innovations that make medicines more effective, safer, and more affordable, (FDA.gov, 2007). They are active with the public by informing them of accurate, science-based information regarding our medicines we take and the foods that we eat. They make sure that the manufacturing, marketing, distribution of products are taken care of properly and they follow the guidelines of the FDA of which they require. They ensure the safety and security of these products that they must approve for the public to have access to them. They regulate things like biologics, foods, cosmetics, medical devices, drugs, radiation-emitting electronic products, and veterinary products.
