Medicine has changed in the past years in many ways. With the change and inventions of new cures, technology, and less invasive procedures, medicine has become a whole different world. Though there has been many enhancements that increase the productivity and treatment outcomes in medicine, the delivery method and care has changed along with it, and not for always for the best. Hospitals are what people find security and safety from all illness and diseases they have come across, but with the change of the economy and budget cuts, the first thing to cut is patient care and service. When people think of hospitals they think of long lines, waiting for hours for a simple procedure or question, medications that aren’t helpful and no care or relationship with the doctor. Patients get less time with physicians and more time with physician assistants and nurses. Many hospitals and clinics have made it known at the first meeting that after the initial appointment, the remainder of appointments will be either with the nurse practitioner or physician assistant. With less care and relationship from the physician, patients start to wonder why pay high dollar for less service, and that’s where the issue arises.…

This brings me to principle number three that I consider critical. We must be open, connected and be able to listen to our patients as well as our coworkers. In the healthcare field we are the front line of the emotional and physical wellbeing of our patients. We must be attentive to their every need, be it physical and or emotional. We will sometimes have to be their advocate, or even their best friend. And they must feel that we are being genuine and authentic when doing so. They must develop trust in us that we are doing all we can to help them.…

Waiting times in public hospital have been a big issue in the media lately. Politicians addressing these issues and using them as a bargaining point in their campaigns by making promises to fix the current health care problem by extra funding or a re-form in the health care. Public health patients featuring in the media stating how long they have had to wait to get medical attention by a Dr or wait till a vacant bed arises. The pressure on the local, State and federal government, Doctors, Nurses and all staff to provide the public with a high quality, appropriate, safe, available & co-coordinated service to meet the needs of growing patient numbers in an acceptable time. With all of these issues, what are we really doing to fix it? In the premier’s 10/11 (1) health budget report, the NSW state budget increased by 8.6% from last year, that’s an extra 1.3 billion dollars. In that same report “ The Premiers Message” she stated “ on April 10th a historical agreement was reached with the government”, she goes on to say “ combined with other funding, this brings the total funding for NSW health to 2.1 Billion over 4 years”, “ this funding means more beds, more timely planned surgery and better access to emergency treatment.” (2)In the last 5 years 3.5 Billion was invested in health facilities, almost every major hospital and emergency department has been either re-built or upgraded since 1995. This shows the state and federal government recognizes the issues and is making significant progress in finding an outcome. In 2010/2011 the overview of the priorities are; (3) “improving and maintaining access to quality healthcare in the face of increasing demands, target, meet and maintain a bench bar for timely access to Emergency departments and surgical treatment and reduce the incident of…

Organizations adapt to environmental changes such as the adoption of a new technology, a change in market dynamic or new regulatory policies and as such the Affordable Care Act was put into place (Frates, 2014). The Affordable Care Act puts consumers back in charge of their health care. Under the law, a new “Patient’s Bill of Rights” gives the American people the stability and flexibility they need to make informed choices about their health (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2014). This has made leaders feel as if the government is making all the health decisions about a patient instead of allowing the physicians to do so. With that said, leaders must apply strategic management into their organizations by creating short term strategic planning which allows the office to meet incremental milestones on the path to an ultimate goal creates an opportunity to highlight achievements, identify and resolve setbacks, and encourage forward motion (Burger & Giger, 2014). Contingency Theory and Resource Dependence Theory are applicable to health care organizations due to the environmental dependency. With health care as unpredictable as it is having both theories used allows the facilities to be prepared for multiple different outcomes.…
