Hazards of Smoking and Benefit of Cessation in the United State
Smoking is a major cause of premature death worldwide. Smoking kills about six million people worldwide each year every eight minute. First let’s define what smoking is. Smoking is define as the process of inhaling tobacco through a cigarettes, tobacco and cigar and etc. For decades now, a lot has been said about how dangerous smoking is, how you can quit and how you can get help. But people are really not paying much of attention to it, instead the rate of smoking increases every day. Smoking can cause different kinds of diseases and eventually death. Smoking cause different kind of diseases like Lung Cancer, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) emphysema, erectile dysfunction in men and so many others. In the United State of America today, it been discovered that women smoke more than men. According to the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), the rate of women smokers are (122,810) One hundred and twenty two thousand eight hundred and ten and men (94,107) Nine four thousand one hundred and seven at the age of 25years and older. It been recorded that (9058) Nine thousand five hundred and eight women and (611) Six hundred and eleven men had died of smoking within the year 1997 and 2004. Smoking increase the chance of sudden infant death syndrome, smoking reduces estrogen levels in women and accelerates thinning of the bones If the rate of smoking keep increasing like the way it is, there will be a great problem in our society health wise. Smoking affects people’s health and also lifestyle if they don’t quit on time. Smokers have been said to have a low education and a lower body max- index that those that never smoke or quit on time.
