Hawaiian Vacation: Relaxing or Rip-off
One thing that every family needs is a vacation with the entire family, from your nephew’s new wife to your cousin that you have not seen in years. This type of vacation allows families to bond in ways never thought possible. It allows them to catch up on the latest gossip, meet the newest members of the family, and hear about who is getting married to whom. Many of these families, especially the large ones, try their best to find affordable vacation areas that offer many exciting activities for everyone. A place that tends to draw large numbers of families each year is the tropical islands of Hawaii. The Hawaiian Islands have offered many families the vacations of a lifetime, but how well is the money that these families spend put to use? Do some of the hotels that line the beaches overcharge and leave families with empty wallets and no fun times to show for it?
The Royal Hawaiian Hotel is one of the most glamorous hotels on the islands, where rich mainlanders visit and enjoy their own private beach (Kayal 40-44). From many of the rooms, you can enjoy the wonderful view of “intense green and sheer, mist shrouded mountains, as well as the beautiful clear blue water” (Flanagan 36-41). However, only the highly expensive rooms show this amazing scenery. The other, less expensive rooms give you views of the walls of the other towers or even the scene of a downtown area that is very over-crowded. In addition, The Royal Hawaiian Hotel does not offer many activities for the kids. There is a small, bland pool and a dining area, but other than that, there is nothing for the kids to do (Flanagan 36-41).
Another fancy hotel for the big spender is the Grand Wailea, which is located on Maui along a wonderfully scenic stretch of beach.
