Have Todays Schools Failed Male Students

Eng 095 1 08-24-10 Reading And Writing Autobiography Going Back To School After Fifty It has been so long since I have been in a classroom environment that it is a bit intimidating and exhilarating. I do believe I am up for this challenge. Going through my elementary and junior high years I had great backing from my parents, they owned a board of education, which kept us on the straight and narrow.

I was a pretty good student with A’s and B’s but I was so introverted that it is hilarious thinking of the person I

turned out to be, outgoing and never meeting a stranger. I liked school in the good old days until I got to high

school when I thought I knew every thing there was to know, we all know I didn’t. At least I knew what my kids were thinking so I learned from that experience. The one thing I will remember is that it is easier to keep up

than to catch up.

It is my belief that as a college student one has to do the very best you possibly can at all times with

focus and purpose. I am always trying to better myself so I like reading self help books such as Dr. Wayne

Dyer because I like some of his techniques for living a fulfilled life.

The only reason for me having to write any thing in the past ten years has been to put a greeting on a card,

It is not something I am comfortable doing but I am looking forward to

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

The gender gap between boys and girls educational achievement has been the centre of much concern and debate over recent years. Concerns about underachievement had previously been directed towards girls, but their academic achievement has now outstripped boys in most areas. The current situation shows girls are outperforming boys in all subjects except for the single sciences. This change in gender difference has created major concern for politicians, policy makers, teachers, schools, parents, and the pupils themselves. In 2004/05, sixty two per cent of girls in their last year of compulsory education achieved five or more GCSE grades A* to C, compared with fifty two per cent of boys (National Statistics Online, 2006).…

I always thought I was an outgoing person. In high school I held various leadership positions and was heavily involved in sports and academics. I also had good relationship with my teachers. They held regular office hours before and after school and actively sought out students who were underperforming. I was fully aware of all the resources available to me and had no problems utilizing them. My high school class was only 450 people, had a 10:1 student: faculty ratio, and had a maximum class size of 25 students. This was a complete contrast to Rutgers University.…

Growing up I would spend hours upon hours teaching my teddy bears and baby dolls in my playroom or as I saw it, my own classroom. I would fuss at them for whispering and would teach them to write each letter on my small chalkboard. As I advanced through school so did my teddy bears and baby dolls. I eventually moved on to playing “School” with my friends. We’d all fight as to who would be the teacher and I’d get very upset when it wasn’t me.…
