The Biggest Challenges Young Adults Face Today

General purpose

The objective of the speech is to dissect the inherent problems confronting the young adults in the contemporary society. These pose a major threat to the lives and wellbeing of the individuals, and are therefore important to understand to enhance personal and societal development.

Specific purpose

The specific purpose for the speech is to contribute to an overall understanding of the environment that circumstances that have left the young adults very vulnerable to these problems and the measures that the various stakeholders can take to rectify the problem and help the young adults to realize their true potential.

Central idea

In the contemporary society, the youth continue facing many problems that hinders their personal development and interfere with their lives significantly. These problems require attention from all concerned stakeholders to redress and come up with sustainable solutions to help the young adults in their personal and professional development.

Young adults face the problem of increasing drug and alcohol abuse in the society. Unemployment is another problem facing the young adults especially after the global economic downturn. All stakeholders need to take active roles in addressing these challenges.

1. Because of the demands and frustrations in the contemporary world, many young adults find themselves engaged in excessive alcohol consumption and drug abuse. This has compromised their health and contributed to development of other antisocial behavior.

2. Easy availability of the drugs and ineffective legislation governing alcohol consumption has made the drugs easily available to the consumers, which has aggravated the drug problem.

1. Due to the economic recession, many young adults have had to contend with layoffs and this has increased the problem of unemployment. Research indicates that the recession mainly affected the young adults, most of whom did not have vast experience in their areas of specialization.

2. This has necessitated some of the young adults to engage in unorthodox practices such as prostitution and crime to satisfy their financial needs and demands.

1. The individual, family, government and other stakeholders need to take active roles in empowering the young adults and creating alternatives, for example on self-employment.

2. Social organizations, religious bodies, health practitioners and law enforcement authorities must sensitize the young adults to help in addressing the challenges.

Young adults face many problems that might hinder their personal development and compromise their relations with other members of the society.
