It is undeniable that there are clear differences in the studying method between high schools and universities level. One of those is the increasing frequency of self-studying to keep up with the high speed of learning program and great amount of knowledge provided each lecture. This means that students must spend a lot of time and make use of available tools to support for their studying out of class. Library is among the most effective and easiest way for students to meet their demand of researching. That is the reason why almost every university including Hanoi University (HANU) invests a big amount of money on establishing its own modern library. However, not many people so far have been able to comprehend correctly the usefulness level of the library for Hanu students yet. It would be typically necessary to find out the key to avoid the waste and to take full advantages of the library.
The objective of this research paper is to answer the question of how useful the library brings to Hanu students. In other words, it clarifies the influence degree of the libraries on the students’ study.
Despite of the two-week time of project generating, the statistics which were collected from survey, has analyzed in a precise way with the best effort to find out the valuable and practical results. Our work is divided into six parts. The methodologies developed in the researching process are stated in part 2. Part 3 and part 4, in turn, introduce the key results and findings after collecting the information along with data analysis from the survey. Part 5 shows some significant conclusions. Lastly, several essential recommendations for improving the library service will appear in part 6. The appendix encloses other necessities in the procedure of implementing the study.
2.1. Determining the study-areas
With the purpose of reaching to the most correct results for the research, 11,000 library users in Hanu were taken into account. Those students are considered as a population for the test. Realizing that it is too large for the researchers to attempt to survey all of its members, a carefully chosen sample that reflects all the characteristics of the population was used to represent the whole.
With the aim of an equal and similar chance of being selected for each user in such a very large population, the simple random sampling is used. Consequently, a sample of 40 individuals was selected to test and make inferences and decisions about population characteristics.
The way of conducting the simple random sampling is described as following:
Foremost, the timetables of all the departments and classes as well as the schedule of the library were checked carefully.
Second, the responsibilities were divided among the four interviewers. Each of us was in charge of giving and collecting questionnaires in two suitable departments then get the completed data in 7 or 8 question papers. The questions were given to any library user in Hanu with a controlled amount.
Done as stated above, we have used simple random sampling without replacement method to choose the sample of 40 library users in Hanu.
2.2 Data collection method
2.2.1 Method description
The final results approached in this research are mainly built in primary researches. A survey of 7 questions was administered to 40 Hanu library users for reviewing of the influence from the library on their study, as well as their opinion on this matter.
For the reason that questionnaires usually provide quantitative data whereas interviews provide qualitative ones (Ugur & Cemal, 2001), we delivered 40 questionnaires from person to person. These questionnaires were supported by interviews to get qualitative data about students. Understanding their psychology is helpful for us in interpreting the statistical results correctly.
In addition, only one secondary datum was used by looking up the website of Hanu which...
