Hamlet parody reflection paper

For this assignment we were given act 3 scene 3. Our job was to translate our scene into a more modern version we decided not to go crazy with it and just recreate the scene in modern society using today’s English instead of the old English used by Shakespeare. In our play I played the king why I was given this part I’m still not sure because I don’t think that I am anything like the king in the play. The main themes were the search for forgiveness by King Claudius and his internal struggle with himself as well as Hamlets indecisiveness. The particular scene that we choose to recreate was when King Claudius was kneeling down and praying for forgiveness at which point Hamlet comes in and struggles in his decision whether to kill Claudius or not. Hamlet decides it wasn’t time or place to kill the king because if he did so while he was praying he would go to heaven instead of hell. That was another key image because it portrays that king is asking forgiveness and to a certain degree Hamlet forgives him by not killing him there. However the sin was too great to be totally ignored by Hamlet and he decides to wait until king commits another crime and then kill him. In this scene both characters express human nature at it’s fullest and it is very easy to relate to both of them.
