Hamlet and his failure to act had many consequences that eventually led to his own death. Hamlet’s cowardly behavor is very similar to the character in the poem “The Love Song of J.Alfred Prufrock”. Hamlet and the character in the poem were both coward and failed to act. While Hamlet’s failure to act is much different to other characters in literature such as in “Mulan”. When Mulan acted quickly, the results were beneficial in contrast to Hamlet who had failed results because he did not act. Hamlet’s failure to act ended his life. Mulan acting on her courageous belief gained pride and honour even though she was a girl and was looked down upon. Hamlet was a coward and that led to many consequences, which as a result led to his own death.
Hamlet failed to act to kill Claudius. Hamlet’s inability to decide to act was his tragic flaw. Hamlet only realized that he should act when he saw Fortinbras taking action over nothing, but a small patch of land. “We go to gain a little patch of ground” (IV,iv,19). There are many reasons to why Hamlet did not act though. One of the reasons was because he was not certain that the ghost was actually his father. “My father’s spirit in arms! All is well./ I doubt some foul play.”(I,ii,272-273). Even when he knew that Claudius was guilty of murdering his father, Hamlet still did not kill Claudius. “Hamlet: O good Horatio, I’ll take the ghost’s word for

Hamlet: Upon the talk of the poisoning
Horatio: I did very well note him.” (III,ii, 282-286)
After the play Horatio watched Claudius’ actions and Claudius seemed very guilty. This was the proof that Hamlet needed. As Hamlet went to kill Claudius, he saw Claudius praying. “O, my offence is rank, it smells to heaven./It hath the primal eldest curse upon it,/A brothers murder. Pray can I not”(III,iii,39-41).
