“Gulliver’s Travels” Satire Essay

The book of Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift criticizes some aspects of the human life by making fun of them with a term called satire. In the book he exaggerates the stupid decision that humans make, and this aspects can be observed in our society with a lot of more defects of human beings.

In the film is satire the decisions of the government and the reasons for making war. It’s been satire the way of how the rulers make decisions that have no sense. One example is the way they choose their governors, which was usually the person that has money. Another example is how they delivered the messages to the king, by passing the message from soldier to soldier and at least to the king. Other aspect that was satire was the reason by they started a war. They started wars for no reason. And they also fought to obtained more land and power. Governor or rulers should be the ones that make the rights decisions for the people and no the ones that make stupid decisions.

In our times there are aspects that can be satirized such as the greedy we are and that we give a lot of importance to things that are not important. Greedy is a bad characteristic of the human being that makes us want more. Usually when we find something important like the cure for a disease the first thing we thought is how much money we can obtain. Also when someone has a very productive product and then he find out that is dangerous he doesn’t do anything because he is only thinking in the money. Another aspect that can be satirized is that we think a lot on ourselves and in our looks. We spend lot money in luxury clothes trying to look good; instead trying to help people that don’t have anything. Another thing that we give a lot of importance is to have expensive things like TVs and cars, and we don’t give importance to things that really important like give love to our children.
