Speaker: Mr. Simon NEWSTEAD (Co-founding CEO of Frenzoo)

Comment:
I do learn a lot after attending the guest talk by Mr. Simon Newstead, the founder of Frenzoo. Firstly, I learn that create value to customers and allow exchange values are the keys for an e-marketing business to be successful. When Mr. Simon talked about the business of 3D chat, I thought it was successful as I think it’s very creative and innovative. However, it surprised me that it was fail because it didn’t offer value to users. This example can clearly prove that create value is an important factor in e-marketing.
Secondly, Mr. Simon talked about the design and development stage and I was inspired by the maximization of IRL word of mouth. I have never thought of people will look at others’ phone in the MTR which Mr. Simon pointed out that putting the brand name on top of the app is a kind of sharing which did through offline. I think this idea is very smart and caring as it has consider those people who will feel wired to ask a stranger what the game is he/she playing. In my opinion, this offline word of mouth can as effective as online promotion as we can observed that HK people is becoming more addicted into playing games during travelling no matter in MTR or bus which will attract nearby passengers’ attention and thus try to download and play as well. The use of IRL word of mouth can definitely maximize the use of social media and thus increase its market segment.
On the other hand, I appreciate the AB testing shared by Mr. Simon. I do think running a test to find out the best way is useful. AB testing is just like doing a marketing research, we need to set a hypothesis first and then test the hypothesis through various ways such as experiments and questionnaires to find out whether the hypothesis is true or false and this is an essential step. By doing AB testing can

Jimmy John’s has been able to implement different digital marketing tactics to benefit the company. One method that has proven to be successful for Jimmy John’s is their online ordering and how it corresponds to ordering over the phone. “A quick log-in and the system has saved the store closest to me and my favorite sandwiches.” (Innogage). Being able to order a sandwich online swiftly is what consumers today have come to expect. Since Jimmy John’s saved information such as orders and location, their likability is increased, the process of ordering is made simpler. This corresponds to the discussion level of the digital marketing pyramid, questions are asked and the information is filed away for a later time. Also discussion evolves into an interaction when, “the employee answers, “hello, how can I help you?” I respond, “I would…

    Decathlon Case Solution

Its first mistake was launching a store on Taobao making it difficult to target its specific customer groups in such an overcrowded shopping portal environment where a user’s mentality is to shop and leave. Its next mistake was investing into BBS marketing (8264.com) which was unsuccessful (only 15% conversion) as people on these communities are known to be focused on being social and not making a purchase. On the other hand, its penetration into Sina Weibo was relatively successful with 1,098 followers attracted in only 3 months. To be entirely successful, two conditions are required; the correct choice of social media where there is substantial presence of Decathlon’s specific customer groups, and use of an effective marketing strategy by Decathlon to differentiate its product and maintain its place on the customer’s perceptual map. To illustrate this, Sina Weibo is known to have a massive number of mobile Internet users who are outgoing and while Decathlon’s success was due to positioning itself as a reliable product for young outgoing users, it used incompatible marketing techniques such as question and answer sessions with prizes thus resulting in partial success in their Sina Weibo campaign. Moreover, Decathlon was not able to transfer its…
