I. Rationale Climate change is an urgent and serious threat confronting the world today and affecting most especially vulnerable sectors such as children and youth, who constitute nearly half of the world’s population. The sectors’ higher vulnerability to climate change is ascribed to their already tenuous conditions caused by social and economic challenges. In addition, it is their generation who is expected to endure the unprecedented consequences of climate change and environmental degradation if kept unabated. For this reason, there is a need to empower children and youth in understanding climate change and its impacts, and appreciating their key roles in addressing the climate challenge. Their capability to influence and shape policies and programs of the government should be recognized. However, in order to better equip the sector with climate change knowledge and skills, mentors and educators should also be involved and capacitated. The Climate Change Commission, the lead policy-making and coordinating body of the government on climate change-related initiatives, together with other agencies and stakeholders acknowledges the importance of engaging children and youth and the academic community in its undertakings. The greatest hurdle is to change our educational system so that it promotes and develops critical thinking, the evaluation of claims and evidence, and the understanding of the rational argument. American citizens could then understand the proof for and consequences of global climate change, appreciate other cultures and their values, and learn how to evaluate candidates’ and legislators’ claims and lies. We could then move past ignorance and prejudice to understanding, kindness, and more active cooperation in shedding ourselves of injustice and…

While climate change is part of daily conversation, it gets disguised as something else. Whether we are talking about climate change on the farm, in the classroom, or in Washington, people shy away from uttering the words itself. Instead, they disguise it as “just talk about the weather”, like Gil Gullickson says, an editor for Successful Farming magazine.…

Heidi Cullen’s article Personal Stories About Global Warming Change Minds argues against the stance that people should be taught about the effects of climate change solely through facts; instead, she argues that the way to raise awareness is through being told the facts and hearing people’s real-life stories who are facing these drastic climate changes. She acknowledges that informing people of the facts or the world’s predicament is vital, but the only true way to get through to people and make them listen and create change is to show viewers the true stories behind people’s lives who affected by the negative effects of climate change. She has noticed that people think more about this issue when given true stories instead of just facts…

The problem is that, once global warming is something that most people can feel in the course of their daily lives, it will be too late to prevent much larger, potentially catastrophic changes,” Elizabeth Kolbert. For decades our world has been changing slowly, and we have felt the wrath of global warming. Recent hurricanes such as Ike, Wilma, Katrina, Rita, and now Sandy have caused many casualties, billions of dollars in damage and chaos to environments around the world. The effects of these storms are only getting greater with time. We can’t simply adapt to it, and the costs are incalculable. What we are facing is huge, global warming is real, and it is here! It’s time we start focusing on using clean energy exclusively, because the better option is out there.…

Simon Caney describes how the earth’s climate is enduring profound changes which to a large extent are caused by human activity, resulting in undesirable effects on people’s standard of living especially the weak and vulnerable. (Caney, 2010) Scientists claim that climate change heralds unpredictable weather events like raised sea levels, that causes floods and in some cases greater risks of ‘storm-surges’, drought, diseases, flooding and in some cases death by heat stress. This essay broaches the ultimate question of who will pay and bear the burden of dealing with climate change based on the principles formulated by Caney and how the near future will evolve to deal with this crisis. At the onset of this 21st…
