Green technology appears in many forms, from organic fertilizers to more energy efficient electronics. Green technology is the use of technological advancements to reduce consumption of natural resources and pollution in order to sustain life on Earth without further damage to the ecosystem. “Green technology encompasses a continuously evolving group of methods and materials, from techniques for generating energy to non-toxic cleaning products.” (Green Technology 2010) Taking steps to reduce human’s negative impact on the environment with require changes in the way energy is supplied, how it is used, and the reduction of the amount of energy used. By incorporating renewable resources as the main sources of energy, the environment will self-sustain.
The demand for electricity and other power is rapidly increasing globally. The energy demand is forecasted to increase approximately five thousand million tons of oil equivalents over the next twenty years. A result of the increase in energy, the carbon emissions have also increased from 4,213 million metric ton in 1970 to 6,107 million metric ton in 2008. (2011 Clean journey)
